The Good
When I first watched this episode, I thought it was pretty mediocre, but after a second viewing, I warmed up to it. Not quite as good as last week, but it holds it’s own.

The best part of this episode was the exploration of Sherlock and Bell’s relationship. We watched it crumble before our eyes a few weeks ago and now it’s time to rebuild. Except… Bell doesn’t think so. Sherlock Holmes is canonically a lone wolf type – sees the need for people if they are of use to him. In Elementary and every single adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s work, the exception to this rule is Watson. Elementary!Sherlock is humanised, and I have said this before, and even though he is extremely intelligent, we don’t have it showcased to the utmost extent. Instead, we get emotion. And with this emotion, we get realistic relationships between Sherlock and everyone he interacts with, not just Joan. I like Detective Bell, I’ve always enjoyed watching him on screen, but whether or not you like him or you’ve sided with Sherlock, we can all agree that the basis of the argument is this: that Sherlock acted rashly, and Bell suffered the consequences. That dynamic is very, very real for most people in the world. Not one person could tell me that within a friendship they’ve never done something that hurt someone else. Obviously, the consequences aren’t quite the same, I for one have never gotten someone shot, but each to their own. If you’ve done that, then you’ll have an even stronger relation to the situation. I definitely see this plot point progressing into the next few episode, or more, because even if he didn’t mean to Sherlock did get Bell shot and now Bell can’t shoot a gun or write properly or be the detective he was before – but they’ll work it out.

I liked the case this week – crime families are always interesting to look at in a TV show. This one had just the right amount of tension, twists and turns – overall it was enjoyable.

Speculation
Bell/Sherlock’s tension will remain for a while and I’m seeing a potential Joan/Bell relationship on the horizon… is that just me that sees that?

Highlight
Joan talking about crime in Queens in the beginning of the ep as if she’d actually lived them. And how awesome was her dress in the first scene?! Lucy Liu is so gorgeous, but she really shone there.
